She was born February 6, 1916, in Wilcox County to the late Markie Edmond and Carrie Dorsey Perry. She was a homemaker and the widow of Dr. Norman George Houston, Jr. She was a member of Nashville United Methodist Church where she served on numerous committees and was the organist and pianist for over 50 years. She was a founding member of the Valdosta Symphony and for many years taught piano and directed choral music in the local school system. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Perry and Jim Perry. She is survived by two daughters, Sue (Guy) Tittle and Lou (Rick) Putnam of Nashville; son, N.G. “Butch” Houston, III of Nashville; sister-in-law, Berrylin Houston of Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 8 at 11 a.m. at Nashville United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Bumgardner, Dwight Bishop and Rev. Russ Elkins officiating. Interment was in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Nashville First united Methodist Church, or the Nashville UMC Church Choir, Valdosta Symphony, or to Carrie Dorsey Perry Memorial Library.
