D. Hughes, 76, of Valdosta died July 17, 2003 at his residence. Born August 19, 1926 in Berrien Co., he was the son of the late Walt and Delia Taylor Hughes. He was a carpenter and member of Knights Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Doris Rowe Hughes of Valdosta; three daughters, Patricia Miley and Barbara Seago, both of Hahira, Linda Beth Thomas of Valdosta; one son,Howard Hughes of Danville; two sisters, Irene Roe of Nashville, Polly Lewis of Lake Park; two brothers, W. E. Hughes and T. C. Hughes, both of Nashville, 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 19 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Revs. Glynn Rowell, Lonnie Spikes and John Thomas officiating. Teresa Royals, accompanied by Carol Jean Kirkland, sang "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be," "Amazing Grace," "Precious Memories," and "Daddy's Hands," Interment was in Empire Church Cemetery.
