Born November 5, 1937 in Berrien County to the late Walter and Mollie Singletary Benefield, she was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Jim Hughes of Nashville; three daughters, Sue Stone of Nashville, Carolyn Hooks of Atlanta, Sherri White of Lake Park; two sons, Mike Hand of Nashville, Jim Hughes of Valdosta; two sisters, Bunnie Brown of Marietta, Martha Nell Lane of Valdosta; two brothers, Clyde Benefield of Eatonton, Ronnie Benefield of Sharpsburg; 11 grandchildren, four great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held November 13 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Revs. Junior Swain and Vernon Hughes officiating. Musical selections included "Go Rest High On That Mountain," "What Mama Deserves" and "Wayfaring Stranger." Nikki Hand sang "Roses Will Bloom Again." Interment was in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Dennis Grimsley, Gary Hand, Greg Godwin, Dan Johnson, Ronnie Hughes, Mark Hall. Honorary pallbearers were Glenn Godwin and Dale Hand. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
