 John M. Johnson, 79, of Adel, formerly of Ray City, died January 27, 2011, at 
Southern Senior Living.
 Born April 2, 1931, in Pulaski County, to the late Carley Robert and Eliza 
Akins Johnson, he was a retired staff sergeant in the U.S. Army after 20 years 
of service. He was a member of Forest Hill Freewill Baptist Church. He was 
preceded in death by his wife, Nina Irene Brown Johnson, who died in 2003.
 Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Kay and Gary Dale 
Coleman of North Charleston, SC and Patricia Elizabeth and John Frank Barton of 
McDonough; a stepson, Jackie Steven (Stephanie) Smith of Brunswick; three 
grandchildren, five great grandchildren.
 A graveside service with full military honors was held January 30 at 2 p.m. at 
Forest Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Carl Morrison officiating. “On the Wings of a 
Dove” was played on CD.
 Lovein Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
