Born April 17, 1958 in Ben Hill County to Carl Ellis and Beatrice Caswell Jones of Ocilla, he was a 1976 graduate of Irwin County High School where he played football and was a member of the 1975 state champion team. He attended and played football for Florida State University and continued to be a very devoted fan. He worked for Valdosta Electric for 26 years where he was known as "C.J." He was a faithful member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon on Sept. 20, 1997. He loved and was loved by his church family. His favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Joyce Anne Rowe Jones of Hahira; two daughters, Lauren Frances Jones and Catherine Elizabeth Elizabeth Jones, both of Hahira; one grandson, Brody Moffitt; one sister and brother-in-law, Angie and Ken Thompson of Ocilla; nieces, Jennifer Thompson (Jason) Smith and Julie Thompson (Michael) Steves and one great-niece, Keira Smith. He was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister, Randal and Regina Jones, paternal grandparents, Wallace and Ina Jones, maternal grandparents, Claude and Fredia Caswell, his mother-in-law, Mary Frances Rowe of Alapaha, and special aunt, Betty Lou Jones. Funeral services were held August 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Kevin Stone, Jackie Connell and Bobby Fussell officiating. The church choir sang "Thank You, Lord," and "I Saw the Light," accompanied by pianist, Nelda Flanders, who also sang "Wonderful Peace." Interment was in St. Luke Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Martin, Brent Merriman, Charlie Barnes, Michael Bennett, Ricky Godwin, Dewayne Steverson, Austin Merriman, Dustin Merriman. Memorials are requested to St. Luke Church Cemetery Fund or Gideons International. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
