Born November 3, 1932 in Berrien County to the late Clayton, Sr. and Livy Tyson Jones, he graduated from Poplar Springs High School and joined the United States Air Force in 1951. He served 21 years in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller, retiring as a senior master sergeant. After retirement from the United States Air Force, he owned and operated Jones Grocery on the Tift-Turner County line on U.S. Highway 41 for 13 years. He was a a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Estelle McNeal Jones of Sycamore; six children, Sandra K. Tincher of Acworth, Lynne C. Yawn of Tifton, Michael C. Jones of Crawfordville, FL, Trina M. Jones of Sycamore, Terry M. Tanner of Acworth and Mary Ann Stillerman of Acworth; seven grandchildren, Carol Howlett, Jamie Yawn, Jason Tincher, Jennifer Yawn, Joshua Tincher, Carson Jones and Sam Stillerman; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda Parrish, Tristan Y Yawn, Brandon Parrish, Gabe Tincher, Becca Tincher, Bella Yawn, Kylee Jones and T Tommie Tincher. The youngest of a large family, Clayton is also survived by two s sisters, Gladys Partin and Edith Brogdon, both of Nashville. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 18 in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Larry Layfield officiating. Mr. Jones was laid to rest in Tift Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Mr. Jones' sons-in-law, Ronny Yawn and Bob Stillerman; and h his grandsons, Jamie Yawn, Jason Tincher, Joshua Tincher and Sam Stillerman.
