NASHVILLE -- Jewell Odessa Kirkland, 97, of Nashville died February 20, 2002 
of Berrien Nursing Center.
 Born June 7, 1904 in Berrien County to the late Charlie D. and Lizzie Connell 
Mathis, she was a homemaker and member of Long Bridge Primitive Baptist Church.
 Survivors include one daughter, Genevieve Guthrie of Nashville; one son, 
Lamar Griffin of Bartow, FL; one sister, Madelyn Wallace of Apopka, FL; one 
brother, Lankford Mathis of Nashville; 11 grandchildren, numerous great 
grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
 Funeral services were held February 23 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Lovein 
Funeral Home with Elder Robert Skinner officiating. A selected Primitive 
Baptist choir provided appropriate music.
 Interment was in Long Bridge Cemetery.
 Grandsons served as pallbearers.
 Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements
