Born December 15, 1945, to the late Thomas and Carrie Mae Ray Lanier, he s served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a mechanic with the L Lanier County Road Department and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lynda Lanier of Nashville; five sons and daughter-in in-law, Tommy Lanier and Garrett Lanier and fiancé, Audrey Black, all of Ray City, Roy Lanier, Jr. and Chet Lanier, both of Nashville, Sam and Crissy Howell of Sparks; daughter, Merlin McCook of Enigma; brother and sister-in-law, G.B. and Darlene Lanier of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Michael Lanier of SC, Seth Lanier of FL, Landon McCook and Grady Payne both of Enigma, Colton McCook of Fitzgerald, Hailey Mabrey of Sparks; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Betty Jean of Nashville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, DeWayne Lanier and Alton Lanier. Funeral services were held June 3 at Purvis Funeral Home with the Revs. Joe Pridgen and Bryan Layton officiating. Musical selections by CD were “I’ll Fly Away,” “O Come Angel Band,” “Keep On The Sunny Side,” “I Am Weary, Let Me Rest,” “Man of Constant Sorrow,” “In The Highway” and “Go Rest High on That Mountain.” “Farther Along” was sung by his son, Garrett Lanier and “Amazing Grace” by Phil Gibbs. Interment followed at Empire Church Cemetery with Military Honors given by the Patri Patriot Guard Riders of Georgia. Active pallbearers were Tommy Lanier, Roy Lanier, Jr., Chet Lanier, Garrett Lani Lanier, Sam Howell, Scott Hodges. Honorary pallbearers were Calvin White, Kenneth James, Donald Exum, Bill Bis Bishop, Mo Herndon, Bubba Rice, Tracy Rice. Purvis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
