Born Sept. 23, 1908, in Berrien County, she was the daughter of Walter Golden and Mattie Gray. A homemaker, she was a member of Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church, Mrs. Mathis was the widow of A. D. Mathis and Virgil Parr and was also preceded in death by a son, Virgil Parr, Jr. Survivors are two daughters, Geraldine Griner, Nashville, and Inell Cornelius, Nashville; two sons, J.W. Parr, Alapaha, Noah "Red" Parr, Valdosta; two brothers, Plemon Golden, Tifton, Walter Golden, West Berrien; 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great- grandchildren. The service is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Junior Swain officiating. Interment is in Oakey Grove Cemetery.
