"Billy" Mathis Jr., 81, of Ray City died Aug. 6, 2006 at Berrien County Hospital. Born May 17, 1925 in Lanier County to the late William Dewey and Ruth Wooten Mathis, he was a retired disposal officer with Civil Service. A member of Beulah Holiness Baptist Church in Cook County, he was married to the late Pearlie Mae Worrell Mathis. Survivors include two daughters, Carole Kemp of Ray City and Amanda Jones of Nashville; one son, Donnie Mathis of Galax, VA; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Revs. Shane Ashley and Clint Ashley officiating. Appropriate music was provided. Interment was in Beaver Dam Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Balwin, Shane Mathis, Tommy Allegood, Eddie Brightwell, Rocky Russell, Chris Mathis, Danny Sparks.
