Born August 8, 1944, in Berrien County to the late Clyde and Rosa Mae Browning M Mathis, he was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the Vietnam War having s served with the U.S. Navy. He was also preceded in death by a brother, David M Mathis. He is survived by two sons, Tony Coombs of Savannah and Benji Jackson of Homerville; five daughters, Lisa Burton of Clermont, FL, Terri Prescott of Lumber City, Jackie Rentz of Rentz, Marolyn Fortner of Wrightsville and Sherry Kowtho of Dublin, two sisters, Lawanna (Julian) Haskins of Pearson and Valerie Davis of Nashville, two brothers, Marshall (Joann) Mathis of Lakeland and Bruce (Monya) Mathis of Nashville, an aunt, Kate Gaskins of Nashville, 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at Wrightsville Church of the N Nazarene with interment in Westview Cemetery with Rev. Jack Hinton officiating. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
