He was born August 22, 1950, in Berrien County to Melba Doris Lewis Mathis of L Lakeland and the late Curtis James Mathis. He was a member of Camp Creek M Missionary Baptist Church. He will be remembered by those with a sweet tooth f for his baking and decorating of cakes. He is preceded in death by his brother, D Donnie Ray Mathis. Survivors in addition to his mother, include his wife, Debbie Rooks Mathis of Nashville; son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Stephanie Mathis of Alapaha; grandchildren, Wyatt and Tegan Rae Mathis; sister, Ruby Mixon of Eaton; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Suzanne Mathis of Lakeland; sister-in-law, Teresa Mathis of Lakeland; special cousins, Harold and Sara Lewis of St. Mary’s; a numb number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held July 28 at 2 p.m. at Camp Creek Missionary Church. Music Funeral Services of Lakeland was in charge of arrangements.
