 Aretha Mathis, 90, of Nashville died July 30, 2013 at Lakeland Villa 
Convalescent Center.
 Born October 7, 1922 in Berrien County to the late William Franklin and Jane 
Ray Roland, she was a homemaker and member of Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist 
Church. She was the widow of John Duncan (D) Mathis and also preceded in death 
by two sons, Carlton Mathis and Eugene Mathis.
 She is survived by two daughters, Linda Gail Gillis and Barbara (Billy) 
Warren, all of Nashville; two sons, Lamar (Miffin) Mathis of Quincy, FL and 
Darrell (Shirley) Mathis of Nashville; 14 grandchildren and numerous
great-grandchildren.
 Funeral services were held August 3 at 10 a.m. at Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist
Church with the Rev. Willie Heath and Mrs. Ella Price Turner officiating.
 Interment followed in Poplar Springs Cemetery.
