Born April 30, 1937 in Lanier County to the late William and Willie Mae Mathis, she was a homemaker and attended Church of God. She was married to the late J.C. May. Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Webb of Nashville, Lorine Tanner and Janet Lynn Guthrie, both of Douglas; one son, Alvin Clarence May of Nashville; two sisters, Marjorie Callahan of Tampa, FL and Marie Davis of Lakeland; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held September 17 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Revs. Junior Swain and Clarence Hand officiating. Musical selections included "Amazing Grace," "Beulah Land," "That's What Mama Deserves," and "Who Will Pray For Me?" Interment was in Empire Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Blake Steel, Greg Wetherington, Keith Wilkerson, Mike Bruce, Mike Hand, Walt Vickers. Honorary pallbearers were Ashley Lane, Jessie Stone, Junior Futch, Robert Earl Griffin, J.D. Mathis, Jimmy Vowell. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
