He was born March 29, 1939 in Cleveland, OH, to the late Richard Lester and Mabel Marie King May. He retired SFC from the United States Army after 20 years in radio communications and served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Ray City Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a step-mother, Edna Northup M May. He is survived by his wife, Marvyne Dupree May of Ray City; sons, Richard (Christina) May of Lakeland, FL and Scott (Cheryl) Gainey of Pelham, NH; five daughters, Robin (Kevin) Davis of Fort Hood, TX, Patricia Macri of Lake Wales, FL, Karen (Tom) Davis of Plant City, FL, Michelle Gainey of Sebring, FL, and Deanna (Bryan) Wixson of Petoskey, MI; brother, Kenneth (Lena) May of Brandonburg Brandonburg, KY; 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; four step-brothers, Bill Northup of Florida, brothers, Bill Northup of Florida, Nels Northup, Murray Northup and Michael Northup, all of Michigan; and a step-sister, Nancy Northup of Michigan; several nie nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held July 30, 2012 at Ray City First Baptist Church with th the Rev. Robbie Peavy officiating. Interment followed in Beaver Dam Cemetery with full military honors.
