Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Bowen- Donaldson Home for Funerals, with burial to follow in Oakridge Cemetery. Dr. W. Ches Smith III will officiate. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Bowen-Donaldson. Born 8-30-1917 in Tift Co., Mr. McCartney was the son of Dr. James Thomas McCartney and Kate Wright McCartney, both deceased. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Army Air Corps as an operations officer and B-17 pilot in Europe. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Margaret McLendon McCartney of Albany; one son, James T. McCartney III of Conroe, Texas; a daughter in law, Irene Smith McCartney of Conroe; a brother, Nicholas Wright McCartney of Tifton; a sister, Miriam McCartney Cauthen of Tifton; a brother in law, Lloyd Duke, Jr. of Adel; grandchildren Magaret Ann (Maggie), Katherine Irene and Thomas Lamar, all of Conroe; nieces Ellen Cauthen Goddard, Carol McCartney and Mary McCartney; and nephews, Wright McCartney, Jr., Bill Cauthen and several others.
