Dr. W. Ches Smith II will officiate. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. McCartney was born June 30, 1925, in Berrien County to Marion Wesley McLendon and Millie Lucyann Hancock McLendon, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James Thomas McCartney Jr.; four sisters, Georgia Martin-Vegue, Verna Alderman, Mary Kate Duke, Dora Alderman; and three brothers, Roger, Melvin and Jack McLendon. During World War II, Mrs. McCartney worked with the War Rationing Board and later the Postal Service. She later worked with the Georgia Power Co. and was a bookkeeper for several years. She had also been active in real estate in the Albany area. Mrs. McCartney was a long-time member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her son, James Thomas McCartney III; a daughter-in-law, Irene Smith McCartney; grandchildren, Margaret Ann (Maggie), Katherine Irene, Thomas Lamar, and James Wesley, all of Conroe, Texas; brother-in-law, Nicholas Wright McCartney; sister-in-law, Miriam McCartney Cauthen, both of Tifton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
