All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Skeeter Parker skeeterparker@windstream.net October 25, 2023, 7:28 am The Nashville Herald, November 4, 1937 The Nashville Herald, November 4, 1937 Mr. Lawton McGill, Well Known Farmer Killed In Accident Killed Instantly When Car Overturned – Funeral Tuesday Mr. Lawton McGill, well known Berrien County farmer who resided four miles north of Nashville, was killed instantly Sunday afternoon about 2 o’clock when the car in which he was riding overturned two miles north of town on the Alapaha road. Mr. McGill suffered a broken neck and a broken left leg when thrown clear of the car. He was dead when picked from the ground following the accident. The car, an old model Chevrolet, was driven by his son, L.H. McGill, age 14 or 15. Young McGill received a strained back and bruises, and another boy, Mack Brown, was bruised. It is said the car overturned when the left front wheel caught in the sand or dirt shoulder of the new road that is under construction. Witnesses said it turned over four or five times, and that Mr. McGill was thrown several feet into the air and 25 or 30 feet clear of the machine. Funeral services for Mr. McGill were held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the Antioch Church in Cook County. Rev. Lyman Hughes conducted the service, with interment followed in the church cemetery. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheard McGill, deceased. He was born and raised in Berrien County where he had a host of friends who are saddened by his untimely passing. He was 53 years old. He is survived by his widow and two sons, L.H. and Escon McGill; a brother, Bud McGill, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Bennett, all of Nashville.
