Dies Alapaha, Ga., Oct. 27. – Mr. John J. McMillan, one of the best known and prominent citizens of the Alapaha district, died at his home four miles southwest of Alapaha Wednesday morning at 3 o’clock, having suffered a stroke of paralysis about eleven o’clock last Sunday night. This was the second attack of the kind, he having had a stroke some four years ago. Mr. McMillan was in his 81st year and had been a resident of the Alapaha district all of his life having been born at the McMillan old homestead two miles north of Alapaha and near the McMillan cemetery where interment will take place this afternoon. Elder J.A. Sutton of Ocilla, Ga., pastor of Flat Creek Primitive Baptist Church, of which church Mr. McMillan had for many years been a member, will conduct the obsequies. The deceased was for a few months mustered into the Confederate Service at the close of the war and was therefore a survivor of the “Lost Cause.” He was too young to enter the service before the last call when the boys and old men were mustered in. His wife, who was before her marriage Miss Millie Fletcher, passed to the beyond about ten years ago. The sons and daughters of Mr. McMillan are Elbert and Miss Sally McMillan, Mrs. John J. Paulk, Mrs. L.E. Register, and Miss Maude McMillan, the latter of whom died some four years ago. All the others survive. Brothers and sisters of the deceased now living are Mr. Jacob C. McMillan, Miss Mary McMillan and Mrs. Sarah Fletcher, Alapaha; Mrs. Katie Fletcher, Tifton, and Mrs. Elizabeth Fletcher, Irwinville, Ga. Mrs. Katie Fletcher, the oldest sister, is upwards of 90 years of age.
