Born May 5, 1913 in Kanawha County, WV to the late Squire Elmer and Ludie Jarrett Melton, he was a retired chemical machinist with Dupont Company, a member of Nashville Church of Christ, and widower of Elsie Vernie Givens Melton, who died Nov. 21, 2002. Survivors include three daughters, Rosie Summers of Sandyville, WV, Judy Cornelius and Brenda DeFratus, both of Nashville; two sons, Charles Melton of Blue Creek, WV, and Larry Melton of Issonville, WV; brother, Ben Melton of Alum Creek, WV; three sister, Thelma Smith of Big Chimney, WV, Velma Hich of Charleston, WV, and Gladys Harper of Indiana; 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan 2 at Nashville Church of Christ with Iam Burgin officiating. The congregation sang "No Tears in Heaven," "Above the Bright Blue," "When All of God's Singers Get Home' and "Sing To Me of Heaven." Interment was in Nashville Memorial Gardens. Grandson served as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin McCorvey, Leon Black, Mike Hamby, Ron Loggins, Sonny McPherson. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
