Born June 7, 1913 in Irwin County to the late James Duncan and Winnie Edge Henderson, she was adopted and raised by Mr. and Mrs. Riley Sullivan after the Okeechobee flood of 1923 in which she survived and her father died. She was one of the founders of New Griffin Baptist Church and was a member of Bethehem Baptist Church in Irwin County. A former employee of Amoco Mills, she was married to the late Randle L. Metts. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry L. and Connie Metts of Alapaha; grandchildren and their spouses, Nancy and Scott Stone of Fitzgerald and Lisa and Jody Tucker of Alapaha; great-grandchildren, Justin Stone, Leigha Stone, Abby Stone and Katelyn Tucker; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Little Dan, John T., Emmett, U.V., "B", James Dalton, Veida Henderson, George Ashley Henderson Sullivan and one sister, Katie Henderson. Funeral services were held December 15 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Paron Primitive Baptist Church in Berrien County with Rev. John Gibbs Jr. and Jackie Lee Clark officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
