"Pappy" Miller, 98, of Tifton died March 6, 2005 at Southern Care Retirement Home. Born in Kingston, TN to the late Absolom Benjamin Franklin and America Belle Littleton Miller, he was the oldest living member of Union Chapel Baptist Church in Kingston. He was retired from Tifton Machine Works. An avid horseman, he was a member of Tifton Saddle Club and participated for more than 30 years in re-enactments of the Pony Express at the Alapaha Station Celebration, GA Agrirama, and in Plains. He played football for the University of Tennessee in the 1920"s and traveled and sang with several gospel groups. Survivors include two sons, Greg Miller of Augusta and Gordon Clyatt of Cairo; three daughters, Berta Davis of Thomasville, Frances Weikert of Knoxville, TN and Loretta Arms of Knoxville; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.. A graveside service was held March 9 at 2 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery in Ashburn with Rev. Kenneth Kicklighter officiating. Pallbearers were J.H. Moore, DeVaughn Harris, Chase Page, Donald Davis, Roy Jackson, Sr. Lance Leven, Frank McGill. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Ray and members of the Alapaha Fire Department, Steve Brown, Kenneth Griner, Wayne Griner, Brian Fountain. Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals was in charge of arrangements.
