Born June 26, 1943, in Americus to James Madison and Vivian Logan Byrd, she grew up in Calhoun and graduated from North Fulton High School in Atlanta in 1961. She later attended the University of Georgia where she received a degree in journalism in 1966. After raising her two children in Tampa, FL and Athens, she taught at Winterville Elementary School in Clarke County for 18 years until her retirement in 2003. She received the honor of Teacher of the Year for the 2002-03 school year. She was a very active member of Athens First United Methodist Church and the Outreach Sunday School Class. She also served as core leader of her community bible study and was a member of the Emmaus Community. She was a devoted daughter, wife and mother, but her greatest love was being grand-mommy to her s six grandchildren. A heavenly host of angles is proclaiming her arrival Home. S She will be missed by many, but forgotten by none. Survivors include her husband of over 45 years, Olan Moore, son and daughter-in in-law, Jimmy and Heather Moore of Woodstock; two daughters and one son-in-law, Amy and Jarrett Brown of Simpsonville, SC and Vivian Logan Byrd of High Shoals; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Sam Matthews of Columbia, SC; grand grandchildren, Logan, Mark, Lacy and Brooklyn Moore and Katie, Anna Brown. A memorial service was held March 5 at 11 a.m. at Athens First United Meth Methodist Church. Lord & Stephens Funeral Home West of Athens was in charge of arrangements.
