Moultrie, 85, of Nashville, formerly of Fitzgerald died January 24, 2007, at Berrien County Hospital. Born April 21, 1921 in Hillsboro, AL to the late James Y. and Lula Smith Moultrie, he had lived in Fitzgerald sine 1968 and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of and received his Doctorate Degree from Peabody Teachers College. He retired in 1978 as superintendent of the Fitzgerald City Schools and former superintendent of the city schools in Huntsville, AL and Cordele and assistant superintendent in Columbus. After his retirement he served as a representative for VALIC Retirement for Teachers. He was a naval aviator and a pilot instructor in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mollie Darby Moultrie. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Chaney of Nashville; son and daughter in law, Jimmy R. and Mary Moultrie of Fitzgerald; daughter and son in law, Sherry and Steve Birger of Hixson, TN; step-daughter and husband, Vicky and Danny Croft of Nashville; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sister and five brothers. Funeral services were held January 27 at 11 a.m. at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
