The Berrien Press -- John Brooks Nelms, 75, of Maylene, AL, died Monday, 
August 31, 1998, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster, AL.
 Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Westview Cemetery 
with the Rev. Jeff Vallet.
 Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7-
9 p.m.
 Born July 31, 1923 in Jeff Davis County, he was the son of George Moses Nelms 
and Mattie Persons both deceased.
 Mr. Nelms was a retired civil services aircraft mechanic at Moody Air Force 
Base and a Navy veteran of WWII.
 He was a member of Worldwide Church of God in Moultrie.
 Survivors include his wife, Lettie Marlene Taylor Nelms of Maylene, AL; three 
daughters, Debbie Vallet of Logan, WV, Edwina Azbell of Birmingham, AL and 
Elaine Nelms of Spokane, WA; one son, John B. Nelms Jr. of Nashville; three 
sisters, Ruby Luke, Louise Baldree and Lourene Taylor, all of Nashville; two 
brothers, Bruce Nelms of Nashville and Rex Nelms of Enigma and four 
grandchildren
