NeSmith Died Last Thursday Mr. Thomas Jefferson NeSmith, 76, died at his home on the southern side of the city near the high school building, Thursday afternoon, September 29, at 2:15 o’clock. He had been ill only one week. His death was caused from an intestinal obstruction. Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Church Saturday morning at 11 o’clock with Elders John Harris and Duncan McCranie conducting the services. The congregation of the primitive Baptist church offered the tributes in song. Pallbearers were: N.N. Hughes, Alec McKinnon, W.H. Paulk, Johnnie Cornelius, A.W. Fallis, J.H. Giddens, and O.L. Tyson. Interment was in the Pleasant Cemetery. Mr. NeSmith was born in Lowndes County on December 6, 1861, but moved to Berrien County at the age of six and had lived here almost continuously since, except for short periods. He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Cora Forehand, three sons and three daughters. They are Earl NeSmith, of Tampa, Fla., Hansel and Cecil NeSmith, Mrs. Lillian McKinnon, Misses Hazel and Grace NeSmith, all of Nashville.
