Born in Brunswick on May 8, 1919, to the late Thomas Jefferson and Cora Forehand Nessmith, he attended Engineering School in Hamburg, Germany, in 1939. He returned to the United States and worked in construction and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 - 1945 in the American Pacific Theaters as an engineer on the the LST Troop Transporters from the Panama Canal to the South Pacific Islands. Aft After being honorable discharged, he returned to civilian life as a heavy equ equipment operator and mechanic, working in 37 states within the United States and and 17 foreign counties. His two most beloved sites were Portugal and the Nav Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Neta Griner Nessmith and his se second wife, Lorene Fountain Nessmith, son, T.J. Nessmith, two brothers, Earl Ne Nessmith of Miami, FL and Cecil "Pete" Nessmith of Ft. Leavenworth, KS, si sisters, Grace Daughtery of Sparks and Hazel Forbes of Brookefield, FL. Survivors include son, Klim Nessmith of Nashville; grandson, Timmy Nessmith ( (Kathy) of Hahira; grandson, Jordan Nessmith of Hahira; granddaughter, Jarrott N Nessmith of Hahira; three nephews, two nieces. The family honored his request for cremation. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at New Ramah Church in Ray City with Becky King and Jeff Palmer, pastors, officiating. At his request, his ashes will be spread at a later date at New Ramah and on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona.
