It is understood that skids were placed up on the car so that the piling might be pulled up on to it. One of the huge timbers caught and could not be budged. Mr. Nix is said to have gotten under it with a hook for the purpose of trying to release it. The chain, which held it, broke and the huge timber began to slide back down the skids. Mr. Nix tried to out run it, but it knocked him down and crushed his life out. It is said that, if he had stooped down and let it slide over his head, he would not have been injured at all. Mr. Nix was reared near Ray City and was well known throughout that section. He is a brother of the former sheriff and also of the present game warden. He is survived by his wife and five or six children. His funeral will occur this afternoon at Empire Cemetery. His tragic death brings sorrow to many friends throughout that section and in this city, who were well acquainted with him.
