Odom, Jr. passed away at his residence in Valdosta on November 17, 2014, after a lengthy illness. He was 67 years old. Jim was born in Hahira on February 14, 1947, to James Childs Odom and Marnelle Parker Odom and spent his early years there. He graduated from Hahira High School in the Class of 1964 and earned his B.S. Degree from Valdosta State University and M.S. Degree from West Georgia University before graduating from American University of the Caribbean School of medicine in Montserrat. After completing his residency in Columbus, he returned to this area to practice medicine. He was board certified in family practice and for many years maintained a busy private practice in Nashville, before retiring several years ago. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lauren Odom Brogdon and James Edward Brogdon of Columbus; granddaughter, Madelyn Faith Brogdon; brother and sister, John Gregory Odom of Hahira and Elizabeth Ann Odom of Valdosta. A graveside service was held at Friendship Cemetery on Union Road near Hahira at 11 a.m. on November 21 with Mr. John Crowley officiating. Donations may be made to the Georgia Sheriff’s Boy’s Ranch, 5671 Highway 122 East, Hahira, GA 31632. Martin McLane Funeral Home of Hahira was in charge of arrangements.
