Patten Died at Nashville Sunday Nashville, Jan. 12. – Mrs. S.R. Patten died Sunday morning at one o’clock at her home here at the age of sixty-one years. Mrs. Patten was a devoted mother and was the center of a very affectionate family circle. A member of the Primitive Baptist Church, faithful and consistent in her life, her sweet Christian spirit was especially manifested in the fortitude which she endured, her long illness. She had been an invalid for ten years with rheumatism. However her death come as a surprise to her family and friends, since she had been so cheerful for several weeks until Thursday before her death Sunday morning. Mrs. Patten is survived by her husband and four children: Misses Effie and Estelle Patton, of Lakeland, Mrs. Billie Cooper of Nashville, and George D. Patten of Jacksonville, Fla.; Four brothers, Messrs. J.B, W.P, and R.L. Patten of Lakeland, W.F. Patten, of Adel, and two sisters, Mrs. R.E. Stapleton of Lakeland and Mrs. W.O. Register of Hahira. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 11 o’clock at Union church, Elder O.A. Knight officiating. A special choir sang How Sweet The Name of Jesus Sounds,” “In the Garden” and “In The Sweet Bye and Bye.” “Asleep in Jesus” was softly sung at the grave. Interment took place at Union church cemetery. The pall bearers were nephews of the deceased, and were Lawson, Clarence, Francis, Thomas, Grover and Walker Patten. Many beautiful floral offerings attested the love and esteem in which the deceased was held.
