She was born in Berrien County and had lived in Ray City most of her life. The was a retired teacher and principal fo the Ray City School system and was also a member of the John Floyd chapter of the DAR and Eastern Star. She was a member of the Berrien County Retired Teachers Assoc. and a member of the Ray City Baptist Church where she taught the Willing Workers Sunday school class. Survivors include, one son, Jack Patten, Ray City; one sister, Mrs. S.J. Guthrie, Lakeland; one brother, Albert A. Cook, Lakeland; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 1977, in the Ray City Baptist Church with burial in Empire Cemetery. The Rev. Wiley Vickers and the Rev. Floyd Mitchell officiated. The Ray City Baptist Church choir sang “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden.” Pallbearers were: Emory Taylor, Billy Clements, Lawson Fountain, J.D. Patten, Marcus Mathis, Mack Sirmans and Mitchell Sirmans. Honorary pallbearers included: Ray City teachers and Ray City Baptist deacons’ wives.
