 The Berrien Press---Esther Ruth Abell Phagan, 79, died April 6, 2009 at her 
home in Van Buren, Arkansas.

 Born in Enigma April 4, 1930 to Rev. Lowell and Nelsie Abell, she spent her 
early years in Enigma where she graduated from Enigma High School. She was 
married for almost 62 years to Rev. G. C. Phagan.

 She was the mother of three, Rev. Bert (SiSi) Phagan of Brussels, Belgium, 
Suzi (Rod) Wiberg of Homer Glen, IL, and Lori (Rev. Clint) Trentham of Van 
Buren, all of whom survive. She is also survived by four grandchildren and four 
great grandchildren; one brother, Paul Abel of Nokomis, FL; two sisters, Mattie 
Abel (Melvin) Robinson of Adel, and Rev. Ann Abell (Curtis) Mayfield of 
Keystone Heights, FL; one special sister in law, Edna Abell of Enigma, and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by one sister, Nell Abell Mathis, and three 
brothers, Julian B. Abel, Herbert Alonzo (Lonnie) Abell and James Ray Abel.

 Devoted to her family, friends and church family, she spent her life in the 
service of others and will long be remembered for the joy she brought into many 
lives.

 A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on April 18 at Mt. Zion Church in 
Enigma.

 Funeral services were held April 9 in Arkansas.
