Pope, 76, of Ray City died August 4, 2007 at his residence. Born August 1, 1931 in Carlton, TX to the late Ozzie Lee and Annie Kate Wilson Pope, he had lived in Ray City for the past ten years. He was retired from the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Knights Memorial Baptist Church and was married to the late Dorma Johnson Pope. Survivors include one daughter and son-on-law, Felecia and Randy Hodge of Valdosta; three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Nellie Kay Irwin of Kingsland, Ronnie and Lilly Irwin of Gainesville, Florida, Richard and Brenda Kay Irwin of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Bobbie Haynes of Marshall, TX; special friend, Geraldine May of Ray City; seven grandchildren, three great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, David Lynn Irwin. A graveside service with military honors was held August 10 at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Spikes officiating. Special music, "Amazing Grace," was resented. Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
