He was born September 20, 1943, in Bartow, FL to the late James William and Myrtice Ola Gibbs Porter. He was retired with 21 years from the U.S. Air Force as Master Sergeant and was a member of A-New Way Baptist Church. While in the Air Force, he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Newfoundland, Shaw Air Force Base, Vietnam, Mildenhall, England, Sembach Air Force Base in Germany, Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado, North Camp Drake in Yokota, Japan, McConnell Air Force Base, and Moody Air Force Base. His civic organizations included Mason and Past Master of Duncan Lodge 234, member of Tifton Lodge #47, and Past Grand High Priest (2013-2014) of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of the State of Georgia, Past Grand High Priest of Tifton Chapter #47, Past Emeritus Master of Tifton Council 58, Past Commander of Coastal Plains Commander #42 Scottish Rite Valley of Albany, Past Governor of Wiregrass York Rite College #189; Member: Hasan Shrine in Albany, Scottish Rite Valley of Albany, Alban Grato, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Tiftarea Daylight Lodge #745, Nashville Eastern Star Chapter 334, Eastern Star Amaranth, Allied Masonic Degree Chapter 314, Order of Red Cross of Constatine; received: Order of Purple Cross, York Rite Cross Honor from Georgia Priory and Order of Civil Trial. He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Porter, and a sister, Edwina Goff. He was a loving husband and father and was a testimony to his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Joyce Horton Porter of Nashville; daughter, Dawn Taunton of Sparks; two sisters, Sandra Heath of Bartow, FL and Sue Ann Eischen of Ponte Verda Beach, FL; two granddaughters, Alex Taunton and Kendyl Taunton. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 1 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Bennett officiating. Interment with full military honors and Masonic grave rites was in Nashville Memorial Gardens.
