  Walter Beauford Powell, 77, of Alapaha died July 15, 2001 at Beverly 
Healthcare in Tifton.
 Born March 8, 1924 in Colquitt County to the late Richard Dave and Hattie 
Bell Green Powell, he was a retired salesman and a member of Alapaha Baptist 
Church. He was a Navy veteran of WWII.
 Survivors include one son, Richard Powell of Alapaha; one sister, Winnie 
Dorsey of Norman Park; two brothers, Rufus Powell of Alapaha and John Powell 
of Snellville; two grandsons.
 Funeral services were held July 18 at 11 a.m. at Alapaha Baptist Church with 
the Revs. Mike Gibbs and Kenneth Kicklighter officiating. The church choir 
provided musical selections, accompanied by Darlene Turner.
 Interment was in Fletcher Cemetery.
 Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
