Born Oct. 16, 1947 in Fulton County to Ruby Mae Herndon Walker of Ray City and the late William Penn Walker, she was a homemaker and retired technology specialist with the Berrien County Board of Education. She had a special love and appreciation for all her friends in education and was a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution and Ray City United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Elbert Powell of Ray City; two daughters, Stephanie (Troy) Black, Valdosta, and Susan (Bill) Schools, Ray City; four grandchildren, Will, Drew, Justin and Gracie; two sisters, Betty Jo Meeks, Ray City, Brenda Hobbs, St. Augustine, FL; brother, William P. Walker, Jr. of Ray City. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. January 24 in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Bishop officiating. Laurie Carter sang "Because He Lives," accompanied by Renee Gaskins, pianist. Interment was in Westview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Barker, Mike Barker, Billy Walker, Joseph Meeks, Corky Powell. Lovein Funeral Home of Nashville was in charge of arrangements.
