Powell, Well Known Local Man, Passes Suddenly Hubert H. Powell, former resident of Nashville, passed away at his home in Valdosta last Thursday afternoon at 6:45 o’clock, Thanksgiving Day, after suffering a sudden heart attack. He was born and reared here and moved to Valdosta fifteen years ago, where he had operated a store and filling station at Five Points, just north of Valdosta, for many years. His wife is the former Miss Opalee Hancock. Mr. Powell was a man of high moral character, with a friendly disposition to his fellowmen. His sudden death caused wide spread sorrow among his many friends. The body was brought to the home of his sister, Mrs. Eddie McLeod, prior to the funeral services, which were held at the Nashville Baptist Church on Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The last rites were conducted by Rev. Omer E. Graves, pastor. Interment was in the new City Cemetery. The choir composed of Edgar Griffin, N.H. Harper, Ray Davis, and Mrs. Charlie Griffin sang Old Rugged Cross and Precious Memories. The Donaldson-Bowen Funeral Home of Nashville had charge of local arrangements. The active pall-bearers, all brother-in-laws of the deceased, were: Harry P. Hancock, Roger Webb, and Hobson Hancock of Nashville; Foster Hancock of Valdosta, Howard Wilson and C.M. Mock of Jacksonville, Fla. Childhood friends served as honorary pall-bearers and were: Henry Snead, Felton Snead, Gary Moore, M.J. Moore, Dudley Futch, and Perry Harris. Survivors include his wife and two sons, Donald, age 10, and Earl age 8. Two brothers, W.V. Powell and William Powell of Nashville; his mother, Mrs. T.W. Powell of Nashville; also six sisters, Mrs. C.R. Freeman of Brunswick, Mrs. Roger Webb and Mrs. Eddie McLeod of Nashville, Mrs. H.E. Scofield of New York City, Mrs. C.M. Mock and Mrs. Howard Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla. Among those from out-of-town attending the funeral services were several friends from Valdosta and Mrs. Marion Register, Mrs. Eugene Bostick, and Mrs. Culbert Powell of Norman Park; Mrs. Ralph Wills, Mrs. Jean McPhall, and Mrs. Lucious Tucker of Moultrie; Rev.
