He was born on June 4, 1914, in Berrien County to Oscar and Nellie Brogdon Purvis. He was a retired farmer, member and deacon at New Griffin Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Doris McMillan Purvis of Alapaha; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and the Rev. Raymond Mixon of Callahan, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Gerald and Irene Purvis of Tifton; five grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2005, at New Griffin Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Simm Youngblood and the Rev. Raymond Mixon officiating. Burial will be held in Brogdon Cemetery.
