Born Dec. 29, 1913, in Clinch County to the late Math and Betty Gaskins Fender, she was a homemaker and member of Ray City United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Jacob Artis Purvis who died in 1973. Survivors include her daughter, Betty Rose Buerger of Nashville; son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Della Purvis of Ray City; three grandchildren, Scott (Heather) Purvis, Kevin (Colleen) Purvis, Tracy (Terry) Hughes; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Hughes, Michaela Purvis, Jake Purvis. The family expresses sincere gratitude to the nurses at Louis Smith Memorial Hospital, Rehab and Physical Therapy. Funeral services were held Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at Ray City United Methodist Church with the Revs. Wayne Mitchell and Pete Barlow officiating. The congregation sang "Amazing Grace," accompanied by Margaret Ann Shaw, and a selected quartet sang "Beulah Land." Interment was in Beaver Dam Cemetery. Loyd Shaw sang "It is Well With My Soul." Pallbearers were Scott Purvis, Kevin Purvis, Buddy Purvis, Terry Hughes, Jackie Schultz, J.D. Cone. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Creech, Junior Cornelius, Harry Cornelius, David Garza.
