Mr. Purvis suffered a stroke of paralysis the Friday night before, however had been in ill health about three years. He was 73 years of age. The deceased was born and reared in Irwin County, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Purvis. When a young man he moved to near Nashville, having operated a large farm four miles north of here for 44 years, until three or four years ago when he moved to Willacoochee. He was well known and highly regarded as a farmer and citizen during his residence in this county. He was a life long member of the Primitive Baptist faith. Funeral services and burial were held Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock at old Union Church in Irwin County. Elders J.W. McMillan and Duncan McCranie conducted the services in the presence of many relatives and friends. The survivors are: Mrs. Fred Purvis, his widow; three sons, Tom and John Purvis of Willacoochee, and Ort Purvis of Valdosta; three daughters, Mrs. H.L. Starling of Nashville, Mrs. B.E. Whitley of Alapaha, and Mrs. Ellie Ross of Lenox; one half-sister, Mrs. Warren Tucker, and one half-brother, Henry Sizemore, both of Alapaha.
