Born November 29, 1937 in Lanier County to the late Hubert and Mitty Mae S Singletary Rast, he was retired First Sergeant U.S. Army with 20 years service. H He participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis and was awarded the Bronze Star and t the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry for his service in Vietnam. He was a Mason in D Duncan Lodge 234, member of the Nashville Post VFW, and a member of Poplar S Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Madine Stone Rast of Nashville; sons, Raymond Rast, Jr., of Columbia, SC and Steve Rast of California; daughter, Shirley Pallant of Exeter, CA; step-son, Rev. Steve Jones of Canton; step-daughter, Sheila Duskin of Irmo, SC; brother, Wayne Rast of Frostproof, FL; sister, Judy Lavender of Sebring, FL; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held March 19 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Revs. J.W. Dukes, III, and Steve Jones officiating. Joyce Warren sang “I Want us to be Together in Heaven,” accompanied by Carolyn Jean Kirkland, pianist, Elton Singletary sang “When He Beckons Me Home,” accompanied by Li by Linda Matthews, pianist. Interment was in Nashville Memorial Gardens with full military and Masonic hono honors.
