Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Lovein Funeral Home of Nashville. A native of Berrien County, he was born Dec. 28, 1893, the son of Mrs. Phoebe Knight Rowan and the late James H. Rowan. Collapses at Table Mr. Rowan complained of illness at the supper table, collapsed a few minutes later and died before an ambulance arrived. He had been a trustee of the Poplar Springs School for the past nine years, a member of the Berrien County Board of Education, member of the AAA committee, director of the Berrien County Chamber of Commerce, president of the Poplar Springs Farm Bureau Chapter and a member of the Riverside Missionary Baptist Church. Tentative funeral arrangements call for funeral services from the Empire Baptist Church with burial following in the Empire Cemetery. Only last week Mr. Rowan had announced his candidacy for election to the Berrien County Commission. Death is a Shock His death came as a shock to the entire community because he was so well known and liked and helped in its progressive development. Survivors are his mother, his wife, Mrs. Nelle Irene Roberson Rowan, 5 sons, Durwood E. Rowan and William H. Rowan of the U.S. Navy, Carl J. Rowan, James H. Rowan, and George W. Rowan Jr., all of Nashville; two daughters, Miss Mary Frances Rowan and Miss Martha Nell Rowan, both of Nashville; five brothers, Julian Rowan, Ralph Rowan, and Alvin of Atlanta; and two sisters, Mrs. Alice McCrae of Alma and Mrs. Owen Griner of Nashville.
