He was born August 20, 1938, in Lanier County to the late Willie and Edna Hughes Royals. He was retired as a lineman from GTE, a United States Air Force veteran, and a member and deacon at Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Watson Royals, and three brothers, Wyman Royals, Winston Royals and Murel Royals. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Harris Royals of Nashville; two sons, Mike (Becky) Royals of Valdosta and Bob (Diane) Royals of Nashville; daughter, Diane Larson of Great Falls, MT; two step-sons, Russell (Roni) Warren and Michael (Rebecca) Warren, all of Nashville; two brothers, James Royals of Nashville and Letha Royals of Lakeland; sister, Lucille Gaskins of Valdosta; 8 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 25 at 11 a.m. at Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. J. W. Dukes, III, Bobby Fussell and Jackie Connell officiating. Musical selections included “Daddy’s Hands,” “I’m a Winner Either Way” and “Amazing Grace.” Carolyn Jean Kirkland served as pianist. Interment followed at Poplar Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Will Royals, Matthew Royals, Jeff Royals, John Royals, Billy Royals, Blake Warren, Michael Murray, Charlie Gyr. Honorary Pallbearers were Ted Gaskins, Donnie Kirkland, Brad Kirkland, Brad Kirkland, Brad Ford, Jack Dukes, David Dukes, Wayne Faulkner, Midge Watson, W.E. Hughes, Rev. Junior Swain.
