He was born on June 6, 1924, in Calhoun Co., MS to the late Samuel Barry and Jimmie Lee Chandler Russell. He was a retired home building contractor, an Army veteran of WWII and a Purple Heart recipient. He was the widow of Inez Howell Russell who died in 1999. He is survived by four daughters, Barbara Connell, Betty Skipper, Debbie Shea, all of Nashville, Margaret Richard, Enterprise, AL; son, Sammy Russell, Claremont, FL; four sisters, Hazel Bell and Elizabeth Ray, both of Ark., Frances Cunningham, AL, Faye Howell, Leesburg, FL; four brothers, Billy Russell, William Russell, Thomas Russell, James Russell, all of Miss; 25 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held May 1 at 2 p.m. in New Ramah Cemetery in Ray City with the Rev. Allen Richard officiating. "When I Get Where I'm Going" was played on CD. Pallbearers were Michael Miller, Tim Skipper, Michael Skipper, Mitchell Brewer, Randy Skipper, Joseph Russell. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
