Scruggs Died Early Friday Morning Charles S. Scruggs, longtime resident of Nashville, passed away in his sleep at an early hour Friday morning at his residence on Henrietta Street. He had apparently been in good health and his death came as a great shock to his relatives and friends. He was 53 years of age. Born in Lowndes County July 13, 1904, he was the son of Mrs. Jennie Mae Scruggs of Nashville and the late Charles Y. Scruggs. He has operated a bee yard for the past several years also a small nursery at his home. He was a member of Nashville Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Garnie A. Brand, pastor. The Holy Notes presented the music, using songs, “Whisper My Name” and “Don’t Worry About Me”, both of their own composition. Pallbearers included, Roger Webb, Johnny McDowell, A.W. Rogers, Edgar Griner, Buie Bennett, and Shine Anderson. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Jennie Mae Scruggs; one daughter, Miss Jan Scruggs; one son, Reuben Scruggs, all of Nashville. Burial took place in Westview Cemetery under the direction of Lovein Funeral Home.
