Born Nov. 16, 1931 in Berrien County to the late F.W.M. "Preacher" and Susie Rebecca Ray Shaw, he was a retired railroad engineer with Civil Service at Moody AFB and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Nashville First Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church of Ray City. Survivors include his wife, Jeannette Harrell Shaw of Ray City; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and William Barker of Ray City; son, Gary Shaw of Eldorado; two sisters, Latrelle Chisholm of Ray City and Lawanna Maples of Valdosta; three grandchildren, Gary Mitchell Shaw, Jr., Hue Barker and Abby Barker. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Shaw. Funeral services were held Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ray City with Rev. John Evans Patten officiating. The church choir sang "In the Garden" and "Beulah Land," accompanied by Jan Rowe, pianist. Interment was in Shaw Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Elliott Garner, Charles Staines, Rick Johnson, Chris Harnage, Jerry Peacock, Ed Lipp. Honorary pallbearers were Furman Ray, E.W. Wilkerson, George Skinner, Howard Ray, Bobby McCorvey, Russell Nix, Charlie Barker, Larmar Peacock. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
