There was a large crowd at the church, where a revival meeting, in which there were forty additions to the church, was being brought to a close. Mr. Sirmons asked to be allowed to testify and spoke of the joy of the Christian life and said that when he died he wanted to go to heaven from such a meeting as that, and shortly thereafter dropped in the floor and died immediately. Mr. Sirmons was born in Berrien county and spent his entire life there. He died within 1 1-2 miles of where he was born and was buried within one mile of his birthplace. He was buried at Lindsey church Monday afternoon at four o’clock, Rev. Albert Giddens, pastor of the Nashville Baptist church, conducting the services. Mr. Sirmons had been a member of the Baptist church for more than fifty years and was a faithful and true Christian. Mr. Sirmons was a son of Abner J. Sirmons, Sr., and Mrs. Fannie Sutton Sirmons, his mother dying in 1909 and his father in 1914. He was married to Miss Nancy Knight, of Berrien County, in 1882, and she survives him with ten children; Prof. J.C. Sirmons, of Tifton; Mrs. Eliza Boyd, Mrs. Mary Temples, Abner Sirmons, Mrs. Minnie Henly, Mrs. R.H. Jones, Pleasant Sirmons, George Sirmons, Alvin Sirmons and Mrs. Pauline Kent, all of whom live in the Poplar Springs section. Four children preceded Mr. Sirmons to the grave; Mrs. Rhoda Folsom, of Adel, who died a few years ago; Tom Sirmons, who was killed in the war; Alfred, who died at the age of six, and Preston, who died in infancy. He also is survived by one brother, John Sirmons, of Ray City, and five sisters: Mrs. Bell Turner, of Valdosta; Mrs. Martha Sirmons, of Lakeland; Mrs. Jim Douglas, of Florida; Mrs. Naoma Atkins, of Porterdale; and Mrs. Kittie Turner, of St. Petersburg, Fla. Friends of Prof. Sirmons here join in extending sympathy in the loss of his father. – Tifton Gazette.
