Born June 25, 1955 in Lowndes County to the late Elmo Lafayette and Hazel Rogers Spells, he was a communications cable splicer. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Parrish Spells of Nashville; daughter, Kristy Michelle Spells of Nashville; stepdaughter, Annie Burnes of Nashville; two stepsons, Aaron Rice and Tracy Rice, both of Nashville; tow brothers, Elmo Spells, Jr. and Wendell Spells, both of Nashville; seven grandchildren, Brooke Spells, Evelyn Rice, Kaylie Rice, Hobie Burnes, J.B. Burnes, Jaden Rice, Carla Rice. He was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Johnson-Spells, who died in 1999. A graveside service was held July 14 at 2 p.m. at Westview Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Daughtry officiating. "When I Get Where I'm Going" was played on CD. Pallbearers were Elton Taylor, Earl Warren, Johnny Holbrook, Michael Spells, Tracy Rice, Aaron Rice.
