Stallings, 78 passed away Sept. 24, 2009 at her residence in Bartow from cancer. LaVern was born in Adel, Ga. and attended school in Columbus, Ga. until the death of her father when she returned to Adel at age 18 to live with family. LaVern married Ray Stallings in Dec. of 1955. LaVern worked for several years at Credit Bureau of Valdosta until her first son Buck was born. She was a mother and housewife until 1982 when she went to work part-time at Lakeland Community Credit Union. Within a short period, LaVern was promoted up thru the ranks to the Vice President of member services. In the early 90's, LaVern retired from the credit union to work actively in the family business of Stallings Crop Insurance, Corp. She was the first "right hand" to husband Ray in the business and then for their son Bob. She managed all accounts payable and payroll until 2005. When her husband's health declined she devoted her time to him at their home in Lakeland, and then at the family home and citrus grove in Bartow/Alturas. LaVern remained a devoted wife, mother, and business partner of all the family businesses. Those who knew LaVern will remember her happy, smiling, and always caring for friends and family she loved throughout her joyous years. To meet her was a guaranteed smile and heartfelt laugh. LaVern is survived by her loving husband Ray, two sons, Buck of Tampa and Bob Stallings, soon to be daughter-in-law, Tina, all of Lakeland; her granddaughter, Brandi Stallings of Nashville; half sister Barbara Hayes of Tampa; brother-in-law, Wayne Stallings and wife Sylvia; and their children Lynn and Lee and their families of Nashville LaVern's death was preceded by her parents Robert Crawford Hayes (better known as Suicide Hayes in his time); her mother Katie Bell Lisenby who died shortly after LaVern's birth. Many years of LaVern's life were spent with her Aunt Coraruth Hayes Cowart and Annabelle Hayes Lipsey and Leon Lipsey, who were her closest family. Extended family and friends consist of Leita Gaskins and family of Raleigh, N.C., Moria Polifrone and Mary Ann Tilley of Lakeland, and Steve and Dana Walker of Lake Wales, plus a multitude of friends and caregivers for the last year of her life. Visitation and life celebration will be held at the family home in Bartow/Alturas on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. Heath Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements and transportation to Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville. A graveside funeral service will be held in Westview Cemetery on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. This will be followed by a life celebration at the Cadillac Ranch in Nashville, after the graveside.
