Born February 19, 1946 in Cook County to the late Robert and Lucille Ray Sumner of Berrien County, he was a carpet installer and served with the U.S. Army for two years. He was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church in Homerville. Survivors include his companion of 16 years, Glenda Smoaks of Homerville; one daughter, Christina Stone of Nashville; one step-son, Buddy Smoaks of Homerville; four grandchildren, Brandon, Chelsey, Clint and Brittany; three brothers, Donald Sumner of Nashville, Earl Wayne and Bobby Sumner, both of Sparks. He was preceded in death by one brother, Randall Sumner, and one sister, Janice Whitley. A memorial service was held January 24 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Mitchell officiating. Musical selections included "Me and God," "When I Gen Where I'm Going," "Softly and Tenderly," and "Go Rest High On That Mountain."
